HOW TO GET IN AND OUT OF THE GYM FAST WHILE STILL SEEING RESULTS
I’ll let you in to a little secret 🤫 I may be a personal trainer but I hate spending all day in the gym!
I’d much prefer doing all manner of other stuff. Eating, sleeping, watching a movie, being Kratos on my PS5 are far more fun than working out.
Don’t get me wrong I do enjoy my workouts, I do want to feel and look good in my middle age but I certainly don’t want to spend every waking hour in the gym. Like my clients I’m now in my middle-ages with other passions and priorities. I’m not a 20 year old who zero responsibilities, loads of energy and all the time in the world to workout 🥱
My clients stay with me long term because I show them how to fit workouts in to their lives not the other way around. You can easily spend 3 times per week for 30-45 minutes in the gym and still see amazing results. This may be the complete opposite you’ve been told but its true 😎
The amount of volume you do in a week will help but the main thing my clients lack is time. Overly long workouts just aren’t going to work for them.
It’s not as complicated as you think either. Here’s some simple tips to make your workouts quicker while also getting better results 💪
Have a plan:
Without a workout routine you’re losing out on seeing better results and you are most likely wasting time deciding what to do.
Gym members spend hours on pointless exercises that don’t yeld results they want and get distracted by shiny objects 🤩 Having a plan will help focus your attention so you only do the things you need to do.
Use Compound Exercises rather than isolation exercises:
Compound exercises 🏋️ are movements that work multiple muscle groups at once. Exercises like squats, bench press, deadlifts, bent over row etc. These exercises are not only efficient at building strength and muscle mass, it helps maximise your workout in the shortest amount of time possible.
Think about having all that time level up in Elden Ring ⚔️or to catch up on watching every Marvel movie 🍿before the next one comes out.
Use Supersets:
Supersets are an advanced training system everyone needs to have in their workout arsenal! They are simple to implement and one of the most effective training methods you could ever use.
All you have to do is chose two exercises in your routine and perform them both back-to-back with no rest in between. Old school meatheads will tell you there is a super special way of planning these but really it doesn’t matter what exercises you chose as long as you combine them.
If you do want to get the most out of these supersets think about combining an upper body exercise with a lower body exercise. Doing this forces your body to push blood from opposite ends of the body which in turn shoots your heart rate up. Potentially burning more calories and getting a cardio training effect 👍
I’ll let you in to another secret 🤭 Not one of my clients ever has to do boring cardio machines like running, cycling etc. The get the same benefit using strength exercises. Imagine that, no more cardio 🙌
You’ll also be so pumped and jacked you’ll look like Thor in that naked scene from Love and Thunder ⚡️
Combine Strength training and Cardio:
This is an extension of 2 and 3. Utilising compound exercises with supersets in your workouts will send your heart rate through the roof 🥵 Maximising your calorie burn and improving your cardiovascular fitness at the same time. Reducing the amount of time it takes if you did strength training and cardio separately.
Combining your exercises throughout the session with significantly reduce your workout time, build muscle, improve your fitness and burn a shed tonne of calories.
You’ll be a lean as Brad Pitt in Fight Club (and more hench 💪) before you know it!
Reduce your rest times:
If you’re using supersets you’ve already taken away loads of rest times 🙌 One extra thing you can do is try to reduce any rest times you do have.
Rest times depend on what you’re training for but if your main goal is to get in and out of the gym in the fastest time possible reduce those rest times. You’ll also see your heart go up and stay elevated for longer. Thats more calories burned and more cardiovascular benefits too 👌
Want to look more like the God of War rather than the God of Lard, reduce those rest times!
Stay Focused and Avoid Distractions:
To get in and out of the gym fast, it's important to stay focused and avoid distractions. We are all terrible at leaving the phone alone for more than 30 seconds these days. There’s too many distractions in that shiny infinity device 📱to resist 😩
Leave your phone in the locker or at home as it’s far too tempting to pick it up in between sets when it’s bear you.
Need music to work out to? A lot of my clients use Bluetooth headphones and their smart watch ⌚️.
Don’t worry about trying all of these at once as just implementing a couple of these tips will reduce your workout times and in turn get you better results. Once you’ve tried a few aim to add more and before you know it you’ll be in and out of that gym before an episode of the Mandalorian.
